Little Learners Activities

0-5 Years

Our littlest learners and their carers are invited to join us for a short series of special activities. From getting hands-on with real museum objects and specimens, to exploring our galleries and collections through songs, stories and role-play, this program is designed to enhance children’s learning and development.


Little Learners sessions are held on the below dates from 10am to 10:30am. To join the session, please meet our Museum Educator at the activity location at 9:50am. Bookings for Little Learners sessions are not required. Please note, each session has a 30 person capacity. 


Activities and Dates:

Thursday 10 February – Mighty Muttaburrasaurus
Start your 2022 Little Learners journey in a BIG way as we encounter the mighty Muttaburrasaurus langdoni, which dominates the Lost Creatures exhibition gallery. How big is its head compared to yours? What shaped teeth did it have? Did it walk on two feet or on four? Join us for a story, hold giant Muttaburrasaurus fossils and stomp in your dinosaur feet.
Location: Lost Creatures, Level 2.



Thursday 17 February – My Backyard 
Join us for a story, explore many animals and plants that live in your backyard and make some finger puppets.
Location: Wild State, Level 4.



Thursday 24 February – Flying Machines
Learn about our magnificent flying machine, make some aviator goggles and planes, then join us for a fun song as we fly through the air.
Location: Foyer, Level 2.



Thursday 3 March – Crocodile Rock
Learn about these amazing reptiles, join us for a story, make your own crocodile and join in the dancing.
Location: Wild State, Level 4.



Thursday 10 March – World Science Festival Brisbane
No Little Learners will be held this week. Join in the excitement of World Science Festival Brisbane instead.


Thursday 17 March – Cool Cassowaries
Learn about this amazing, giant, flightless rainforest-dwelling bird. Enjoy the Indigenous story of how the cassowary got its helmet, explore rainforest specimens and join in some creative activities.
Location: Wild State, Level 4.



Thursday 24 March – Easter Bilbies
Learn about Queensland’s special long-eared Easter ambassador and hunt for some native egg layers. Become a bilby and enjoy some Easter activities.
Location: Wild State, Level 4.
