Crustaceans collections

Trapezia septata Queensland has the highest diversity of marine and terrestrial crustaceans in Australia. This is due to the rich diversity of habitats in tropical and subtropical climates. The collection contains:

  • about 27,000 registered specimen lots, about 9,000 unregistered;
  • over 1400 type specimens;
  • strengths in decapods (crabs, shrimps, lobsters and their relatives);
  • Indo-West Pacific mangrove and shore crabs; one of the most comprehensive in the world, and includes almost all Australian species;
  • about 75% of the collection is databased.
