Imperial Barnacle, Austrobalanus imperator


Six very thick shell plates, often eroded or encrusted with other organisms. Deep purple inside shell plates. To about 25 mm high and 30 mm across base.


Towards low water level on oceanic rocky shores, but not where subject to severe wave action; sometimes enters mouths of estuaries. Indigenous, eastern Australia.
