Museums are places where families learn together. Find daily and seasonal activities and events, to add to your visit experience.

Things to see and do 

Accompanying adults are encouraged to scaffold and model learning behaviors such as conversations, observations, comparisons and inquiring to learn together throughout the whole museum.
Staff are located throughout the Museum to assist, offer directions or interpret information. Children’s activities and interactions feature throughout exhibitions within Queensland Museum.

Holiday Programs

The Museum is a great place to enjoy learning all year round, but celebrate that extra holiday buzz with our scheduled Holiday Programs.
Some experiences may incur a pre-purchased ticket or admission fee/donation, so browse our events calendar or subscribe to e-news for updates.

  • Scales and Tails Masterclass Reptile Workshop
    Ages 12+ (adults welcome).
    Don't miss this unique chance to investigate reptiles and their amazing and diverse adaptations. This showcase workshop includes an identification challenge using scientific equipment and practices.
    Presented by Museum Educator, Herpetologist and Wildlife Photographer, Steve Wilson.
    Each ticket includes a copy of our popular, pocket-sized field guide to take home.

  • I Do Love a Clue Trail
    Suitable for all ages (families are recommended to work as a team).
    Activity to help you explore the Museum. Find hidden clues and examples of love among our collections. Use your trail sheet to decode a message and create a special gift.
    Self-guided - look for each clues at your own pace or discover them as you browse.


Play and investigate your way through 40 interactive exhibits. Ignite your imagination in SparkLab, our new Sciencentre experience!

  • Explore your curiosity as you play with the exhibits.
  • Ask questionstest out your ideas and make observations of what is happening.
  • Designbuild and make using your imagination.
  • Share your thinking with others and build on new ideas and questions.

Discovery Day for Little Learners

Little Learners are welcome all year round but we also celebrate them with their own special day!
Discovery Days offer additional learning spaces and experiences for families with children aged 2-6. Experiences foster curiosity, support STEM education and encourage shared and learning between children and adults.
In 2020, you can enjoy our online Little Learners clips, while we work towards resuming these events in 2021.

We opened a new-look Discovery Centre in 2019! Our Information Officers and amazing exhibits help you learn about our remarkable Australian animals, or amazing artifacts that tell us about people and places. Topics change regularly; you never know what you might find.
