Visiting the museum

There’s no need to pre-book general admission tickets to Queensland Museum at South Bank. For general admission, simply arrive at Level 2 to enter the museum between 9:30am and 3pm (doors close at 4pm).

You’ll still need to purchase entry tickets for Sea Monsters: Prehistoric Ocean Predators exhibition and SparkLab with limited numbers per session.

Please note Queensland Museum is closed on Good Friday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Open Anzac Day from 1:30 pm.

Tips for planning your day

  • Save time and download the Check In Qld app before your visit from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Upon arrival please use the app to scan the QR code to check in and show our friendly staff the successful check in screen.
  • If we reach our capacity inside, you may have to queue for a short time before entry via the Level 2 door (near the pedestrian bridge to QPAC) and exit is via the Shop.
  • We’re open between 9:30am and 4pm and we are busiest in the morning before lunch.
  • For unlimited entry to SparkLab, buy an Annual Pass today.
  • To extend your visit experience, our shop team have produced a number of show bags for you to buy – see them all here.
  • Food and drink can now be consumed outside in the Dinosaur Garden on Level 0.
  • We prefer cashless payments at our shops and Café Muse, so please bring a contactless bank card.

Conditions of Entry

To keep you safe, we have updated our conditions of entry in line with COVID-19 restrictions:

  • Visitor numbers are capped in accordance with government guidelines, thank you for your patience while you wait.
  • Contact information is required for all visitors upon entry.
  • If you are unwell, we ask you not to enter and to please come back when you are feeling better.
  • We'll have signage and alcohol-based hand sanitiser, available to help you to practice social distancing and good hygiene.
  • Some displays and exhibits might be closed. Thank you for understanding.
  • We can only let a few people into our bathrooms at once. Please be patient and give priority to people with special needs.
  • Please follow the directions of our friendly staff. They are here to help keep you safe.

Road closure information

On Sunday 11 July, access to Queensland Museum will only be available on foot or by public transport due to the Tour de Brisbane cycling event. All precinct car parks will be closed until 1pm. If you’re travelling via public transport, the closest train station is South Brisbane station and the closest bus station is Cultural Centre station. Expect delays and plan your journey using alternate routes if driving. Find out more.
